Description: Hewlett-Packard LaserJet 5500 color laser printer SNMP MIB providing CMYK toner, paper, and printer health management objects.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is LJ5500-MIB?

LJ5500-MIB is a vendor-specific SNMP module from Hewlett-Packard for the LaserJet 5500 color laser printer, providing detailed printer management objects covering CMYK toner/consumables, paper handling, and overall printer health. It exposes device self-test and diagnostic controls, control-panel display state and button-press events, background status messages, localization capabilities, and energy-management (Energy Star) settings alongside core device/device-system identity objects. This is squarely a hardware/software status MIB for print devices: self-test and perm-store-init-occurred surface internal diagnostic and NVRAM initialization events, control-panel-display-contents-crc/change-counter let a management station detect what message is currently shown on the printer's front panel (e.g. an error or low-toner state), and background-status-msg-line1/2-part1 expose the printer's current human-readable status text. It builds on HP's proprietary PML (Printer Management Language) management framework (netPMLmgmt) alongside the general conventions typical of HP LaserJet MIBs. Typical deployment context is enterprise or SMB office environments where IT monitors networked HP LaserJet 5500 printers for consumable and fault status. Engineers can download the LJ5500-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in LJ5500-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP LaserJet 5500 color laser printer

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll background-status-msg-line1-part1/line2-part1 to read the printer's current status text (e.g. "PAPER JAM" or "TONER LOW") without needing to be physically present at the device. Watching control-panel-display-contents-crc for a change indicates the front-panel message has updated, which combined with control-panel-display-contents-change-counter can detect frequent error-state cycling. Triggering self-test or print-internal-page remotely and checking perm-store-init-occurred helps diagnose whether the printer's internal storage was reset, useful after an unexpected reboot.

What Can Be Monitored

  • current status message (control panel text)
  • self-test/diagnostic results
  • control panel display state changes
  • energy-star power mode
  • localization/language settings
  • internal storage initialization events
