Description: Controls Destination Lookup Failure (DLF) packet flooding behavior on Cisco Small Business switches.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCOSB-Dlf-MIB?
CISCOSB-Dlf-MIB is a Cisco Small Business (formerly Linksys/Radlan-derived) private MIB that controls Destination Lookup Failure (DLF) handling on the switch's Layer 2 forwarding engine, specifically unknown-unicast egress flooding behavior. Rather than exposing performance counters, it mainly provides configuration objects that determine on which ports unknown-unicast traffic is flooded or filtered. Its relevance to hardware/software status monitoring is limited, but it does let an operator verify the switch's current forwarding-policy configuration state per port, which is useful when diagnosing unexpected broadcast/flood traffic or asymmetric switching behavior. It depends on the switch's underlying bridging/forwarding MIB structure and Cisco Small Business's private enterprise tree. It is deployed on small-business and SMB-class managed switches where administrators need fine control over flood behavior for security or bandwidth reasons, and administrators can download the CISCOSB-Dlf-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCOSB-Dlf-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco Small Business managed switches
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would inspect rlDlfPortList to see which ports currently have unknown-unicast flooding enabled or disabled, useful when troubleshooting excessive broadcast-domain traffic reaching ports that should be isolated. This is fundamentally a configuration/state object rather than a live traffic counter, so it reveals policy misconfiguration rather than real-time faults.
What Can Be Monitored
- unknown-unicast flood port list
- DLF filtering state per port
