Category: SNMP Framework, Vendor: Cisco Devices

Description: Defines agent capability statements for Cisco XGCP extended features and additional endpoint management.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-XGCP-EXT-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-XGCP-EXT-CAPABILITY is a Cisco AGENT-CAPABILITIES module documenting agent conformance for CISCO-XGCP-EXT-MIB, an extension to XGCP (a gateway control protocol variant) used in Cisco VoIP/media-gateway management. As a capabilities statement, it defines no managed data objects itself; instead it declares which object groups and variations of the extended XGCP endpoint-management MIB a given Cisco software release supports. It therefore has no direct role in monitoring hardware or software runtime status by itself — its purpose is purely to let an NMS confirm feature support before polling the underlying CISCO-XGCP-EXT-MIB for actual endpoint/call state. Its explicit dependency is on the base CISCO-XGCP-EXT-MIB, whose object groups it profiles. Typical deployment is Cisco VoIP gateways or gateway controllers where an NMS checks agent capability before polling endpoint management data from the base MIB. Engineers can download the CISCO-XGCP-EXT-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-XGCP-EXT-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco VoIP media gateways
  • Cisco gateway controllers
  • Cisco IOS-based VoIP/media gateway routers (XGCP call-control gateways, e.g. Cisco 2600/3600/5350/5400 series running Cisco IOS 12.3)

Monitoring Examples

This module is a conformance/capabilities statement and defines no managed objects, tables, or notifications of its own, so no monitoring scenario can be honestly constructed from it in isolation. It exists solely to declare which object groups from CISCO-XGCP-EXT-MIB a given Cisco gateway software release implements.
