Organization: Cisco Systems, Inc.

Last Updated: 2001-09-14

Category: SNMP Framework, Vendor: Cisco Devices

Description: Defines agent capability statements for Cisco WAN NCDP (Network Clock Distribution Protocol) management.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-WAN-NCDP-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-WAN-NCDP-CAPABILITY is a Cisco AGENT-CAPABILITIES module, not a data-bearing MIB; it formally states which parts of the companion CISCO-WAN-NCDP-MIB (Network Clock Distribution Protocol) a given Cisco agent implementation actually supports. NCDP itself relates to distributing timing/clock signals across Cisco WAN switching platforms such as the IGX/BPX ATM switch family. This capabilities module carries no runtime objects of its own, so it has no direct role in reporting hardware or software status; that data lives in CISCO-WAN-NCDP-MIB itself. It is explicitly dependent on and meaningless without CISCO-WAN-NCDP-MIB, which it describes conformance for. It would be used by network management systems performing MIB/agent conformance checks against Cisco WAN switches rather than by operators doing day-to-day monitoring, making this module primarily a CISCO-WAN-NCDP-CAPABILITY reference for conformance tooling rather than a live monitoring target.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-WAN-NCDP-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco WAN switch (e.g., IGX/BPX ATM platform)

Monitoring Examples

This module is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES statement with no sample data objects, so honestly there is no runtime monitoring scenario to describe here. Its only function is to declare which CISCO-WAN-NCDP-MIB objects and groups a particular Cisco agent version implements, for use by conformance-checking management tools.
