Description: PCI adapter slot discovery, presence detection, power state, and operability for Cisco UCS blade and rack server expansion cards

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-PCI-MIB?

This MIB is part of Cisco's Unified Computing System (UCS) management information model, covering PCI adapter expansion slot discovery, presence detection, power state, and operability for UCS blade and rack server expansion cards (mezzanine adapters, VICs, etc.). It exposes per-slot objects for equipment discovery state, controller/host reporting status, fault aggregation, and adapter identification, including left/right MAC address assignment for dual-port mezzanine cards. Its central monitoring value is hardware status of server expansion components—confirming whether a PCI adapter slot has power, has been discovered by the host and controller, is operable, and whether any faults have been aggregated against it—making it directly useful for diagnosing failed or missing expansion cards in a blade server. It depends on the broader Cisco UCS MIB family's Dn/Rn distinguished-name addressing scheme shared across UCS equipment MIBs. It would be deployed in Cisco UCS blade and rack server domains within enterprise and service provider data centers. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-PCI-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-PCI-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco UCS blade server
  • Cisco UCS rack server

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll cucsPciEquipSlotTable, keyed by cucsPciEquipSlotInstanceId, to check cucsPciEquipSlotDiscoveryState and confirm a given cucsPciEquipSlotId adapter has been properly discovered by both cucsPciEquipSlotControllerReported and cucsPciEquipSlotHostReported. The cucsPciEquipSlotFltAggr object surfaces any aggregated faults on that slot—useful for spotting a failed mezzanine card—while cucsPciEquipSlotMacLeft and cucsPciEquipSlotMacRight confirm the expected MAC addresses are assigned to a dual-port adapter. A slot showing controller-reported but not host-reported presence would flag a driver or OS-level detection problem distinct from a hardware seating issue.

What Can Be Monitored

  • PCI adapter slot discovery state
  • controller vs. host reported presence
  • aggregated slot faults
  • adapter MAC address assignment
