Description: Manages Dynamic Feedback Protocol (DFP) server weight reporting for Cisco Server Load Balancing on CSM modules.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-SLB-DFP-MIB?
CISCO-SLB-DFP-MIB is a Cisco proprietary MIB for the Content Switching Module (CSM) Server Load Balancing feature, implementing Dynamic Feedback Protocol (DFP), a mechanism by which real servers report a computed 'weight' back to the load balancer reflecting their current capacity/congestion. It exposes congestion onset/abate thresholds and threshold type at a global level, and a per-processor table (cslbcProcessorDfpValTable) recording a DFP value/weight for each real server's processor along with a description. This is a load/health-monitoring MIB for the servers behind a Cisco SLB, not for the switch's own hardware: falling cslbcProcessorDfpValDfpValue values indicate a real server is becoming congested from high CPU or memory utilization or too many active client bindings, and the module also generates notifications (ciscoSlbDfpMIBNotifs) when a server crosses into or out of a congestion state. It depends on Cisco's SLB/CSM feature set for context, since the real servers and server farms it references are configured through Cisco's broader SLB MIB set. It is deployed on Cisco Content Services Switches/CSM modules performing server load balancing in data center front-end tiers. Engineers can download the CISCO-SLB-DFP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-SLB-DFP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco Content Services Switch (CSS)
- Cisco CSM (Content Switching Module)
Monitoring Examples
An operator would poll cslbcProcessorDfpValTable/cslbcProcessorDfpValEntry, tracking cslbcProcessorDfpValDfpValue per cslbcProcessorDfpValPhysicalIndex to see the current DFP weight reported for each real server's processor. A DFP value dropping toward the configured cslbcDfpCongestionOnsetThreshold signals that server is becoming overloaded and the SLB should start shifting new connections elsewhere; a subsequent ciscoSlbDfpMIBNotifs notification would confirm the congestion state change was detected.
What Can Be Monitored
- per-server DFP weight/value
- congestion onset/abate threshold crossing
- congestion notifications per real server
