Category: Cisco Devices, Network Interfaces, SNMP Framework

Description: Declares SNMP agent capability statements for the EtherLike-MIB implementation on various Cisco Ethernet interface platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-ETHERLIKE-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-ETHERLIKE-CAPABILITY is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module, not a data-bearing MIB, published by Cisco to declare which parts of the standard IETF EtherLike-MIB (dot3StatsTable and related Ethernet-like interface objects) a given Cisco Ethernet platform's SNMP agent actually implements. It exposes no counters, gauges, or tables of its own; instead it enumerates supported groups, objects, and variations against the EtherLike-MIB definition for specific IOS/IOS-XE releases and hardware families. As such it plays no direct role in monitoring hardware or software status itself, but it governs which EtherLike-MIB health data (duplex mismatches, alignment/FCS errors, collision counts) an NMS can reliably expect to poll from a given device. It is entirely dependent on the IETF EtherLike-MIB and SNMPv2-CONF's AGENT-CAPABILITIES macro. Typical deployment context is internal Cisco agent-capability documentation consumed by MIB compilers and NMS platforms during device onboarding, not by day-to-day operational polling. Engineers can download the CISCO-ETHERLIKE-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-ETHERLIKE-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco Ethernet-capable switches and routers

Monitoring Examples

This is a conformance/AGENT-CAPABILITIES module with no runtime data objects, so there is no monitoring scenario to describe; it only documents feature/version support for the EtherLike-MIB on specific Cisco platforms.
