What Is CISCO-SDLLC-MIB?
CISCO-SDLLC-MIB manages Cisco's SDLLC feature, which performs protocol conversion between SNA's Synchronous Data Link Control (SDLC) on serial links and IEEE 802.2 LLC2 on Token Ring/LAN media, bridging legacy mainframe SNA traffic onto LAN/WAN infrastructure. It belongs to Cisco's legacy SNA/data-link internetworking feature set found on routers acting as FEP-to-LAN gateways. The MIB exposes read-only configuration and operational data about SDLLC ports and address mappings, including virtual MAC/ring assignments, bridge numbers, local acknowledgment (spoofing) settings, and per-SDLC-address conversion state. For monitoring purposes it is primarily used to confirm the operational/configuration status of each SDLLC conversion port and local-ack session rather than classic hardware health metrics like temperature or CPU. It has no strong dependency beyond the base bridging and SNA feature set on the router, and is deployed on Cisco routers used as SDLC-to-LLC2 gateways connecting SDLC-attached SNA devices to Token Ring-based FEP hosts, and network engineers typically start with a CISCO-SDLLC-MIB download to load these objects into their management tools.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-SDLLC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco routers configured as SDLC-to-LLC2 (SDLLC) gateways
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll convSdllcPortTable/convSdllcPortEntry to check convSdllcPortVirtMacAddr, convSdllcPortVirtRing, and convSdllcPortLocalAckState for each configured SDLLC port, confirming the virtual MAC and ring number match the intended LLC2 session and that local acknowledgment is active. The convSdllcAddrTable/convSdllcAddrEntry, keyed by convSdllcAddrSdlcAddr, lets an operator verify which SDLC station addresses are currently mapped for conversion. If convSdllcPortLocalAckState shows the session down, it flags a broken SDLC-to-LLC2 conversion path affecting SNA connectivity to the mainframe.
What Can Be Monitored
- SDLLC port virtual MAC/ring configuration
- local acknowledgment (spoofing) state
- SDLC address-to-LLC2 mapping status
- max LLC2 frame size
- bridge/ring assignment per SDLLC port
