Description: Manages SAN base infrastructure services including fabric login and zone distribution on Cisco MDS switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-SAN-BASE-SVC-MIB?

CISCO-SAN-BASE-SVC-MIB is a common Cisco module for managing base infrastructure services deployed across a Storage Area Network (SAN) cluster, such as IO Acceleration (IOA), on Cisco MDS Fibre Channel switches. It belongs to the storage networking technology area and exposes data about the cluster of service nodes formed across multiple switches, including cluster identity, state, the elected master node's address, and cluster member membership. Its monitoring value is centered on fault-tolerance and software service health: the cluster state and master-node fields reveal whether the service cluster is healthy and has an active coordinator, while the member table shows whether all expected switches are participating so that workload failover between nodes will actually work if one node fails. It uses SAN-specific identifiers such as World Wide Names (WWN/pWWN) from the Fibre Channel standards and complements other Cisco MDS/SAN management MIBs. It is typically deployed on Cisco MDS 9000-series SAN directors/switches running clustered services like IOA. Engineers can download the CISCO-SAN-BASE-SVC-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-SAN-BASE-SVC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco MDS SAN switch/director

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll cSanBaseSvcClusterTable's cSanBaseSvcClusterState and cSanBaseSvcClusterMasterInetAddr per cSanBaseSvcClusterId to confirm the SAN service cluster is in a healthy state and has a reachable master node. Cross-referencing cSanBaseSvcClusterMembersTable would show whether a switch that is supposed to be part of the cluster (per cSanBaseSvcClusterName and cSanBaseSvcClusterApplication) has silently dropped out, which would mean that switch's workload is no longer protected by the cluster's fault-tolerance mechanism.

What Can Be Monitored

  • SAN cluster state
  • cluster master node address
  • cluster membership
  • cluster storage type
