Category: Cisco Devices, Network Monitoring (RMON), SNMP Framework
Description: Declares SNMP agent capabilities for RMON configuration management on Cisco routing and switching platforms.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-RMON-CONFIG-CAPABILITY?
CISCO-RMON-CONFIG-CAPABILITY is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module describing which features of the CISCO-RMON-CONFIG-MIB a Cisco routing or switching platform's agent supports. It belongs to the RMON (Remote Network Monitoring) automation/provisioning technology area, specifically the auto-configuration of RMON alarms and events. It contains no runtime objects of its own, so it cannot be used to check device uptime, temperature, CPU/memory, or any live counters; its sole purpose is conformance declaration for management systems configuring RMON thresholds. It is entirely dependent on, and meaningless without, the companion CISCO-RMON-CONFIG-MIB data module. It applies to Cisco IOS routers and switches on which RMON alarm auto-configuration is enabled. Engineers can download the CISCO-RMON-CONFIG-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-RMON-CONFIG-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco router or switch running RMON
Monitoring Examples
This is a conformance/AGENT-CAPABILITIES module with no runtime data objects, so no monitoring scenario applies; it exists only to tell an NMS which CISCO-RMON-CONFIG-MIB capabilities the device supports.
