Category: Cisco Devices, RADIUS and AAA, SNMP Framework, VPN and Security

Description: States SNMP agent capabilities related to MAC Authentication Bypass (MAB) on Cisco network access devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-MAC-AUTH-BYPASS-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-MAC-AUTH-BYPASS-CAPABILITY is a Cisco AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module that declares which specific objects, groups, and compliance levels of the companion CISCO-MAC-AUTH-BYPASS-MIB a given Cisco device's SNMP agent actually implements, for MAC Authentication Bypass (MAB), a network access control mechanism that authenticates devices by their MAC address when 802.1X is not supported. As an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module it defines no runtime data objects itself; it exists purely to describe implementation conformance for network management tools performing capability negotiation. It has no direct role in monitoring hardware or software status; its value is entirely in helping an NMS determine which MAC Authentication Bypass management objects are safe to query on a particular Cisco platform and software version. It exists specifically as a conformance companion to CISCO-MAC-AUTH-BYPASS-MIB, on which it is entirely dependent. As a CISCO-MAC-AUTH-BYPASS-CAPABILITY reference, it is consulted wherever Cisco access switches or wireless controllers implementing MAB are managed, primarily by MIB-compilation and capability-discovery tooling rather than by operational monitoring dashboards.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-MAC-AUTH-BYPASS-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco network access switch
  • Cisco wireless LAN controller

Monitoring Examples

This is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module with no runtime data objects to poll; it exists only to declare which objects and groups of CISCO-MAC-AUTH-BYPASS-MIB are supported on a given Cisco device, and would be consulted by MIB-management or NMS discovery tooling rather than used for any monitoring scenario.
