Category: Cisco Devices, SNMP Framework, VLAN and Bridging

Description: Declares SNMP agent capabilities for IEEE 802.1Q bridge management on Cisco switching platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-Q-BRIDGE-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-Q-BRIDGE-CAPABILITY is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module that documents which parts of the standard IEEE 802.1Q Q-BRIDGE-MIB a given Cisco switching platform's SNMP agent actually implements. It belongs to the Cisco conformance/capability MIB family rather than to any functional data area, and it does not itself expose interfaces, environment, or performance counters. Because AGENT-CAPABILITIES modules only declare support levels for object groups defined elsewhere, this MIB has no direct role in monitoring hardware or software status; instead it tells an NMS what subset of Q-BRIDGE-MIB (VLAN and bridging) functionality to expect from a particular Cisco device and software release. It is inherently dependent on the IEEE 802.1Q Q-BRIDGE-MIB, whose object groups it references and qualifies. It is used internally by SNMP management platforms as a CISCO-Q-BRIDGE-CAPABILITY reference during MIB compliance checks and agent capability negotiation, not for day-to-day operational polling.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-Q-BRIDGE-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco switches (802.1Q VLAN-capable)

Monitoring Examples

This is a conformance/AGENT-CAPABILITIES module with no runtime data objects (sample_objects is empty), so there is no monitoring scenario to describe; its sole function is to state which Q-BRIDGE-MIB groups and objects a Cisco agent supports.
