Description: Provides managed objects for configuring IP characteristics of device interfaces, including IP helper address table management.

IPNetwork Monitor uses several OIDs from this MIB in network discovery and polling the applicable devices. Start monitoring CISCO-IP-IF-MIB with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor.

What Is CISCO-IP-IF-MIB?

CISCO-IP-IF-MIB provides Cisco proprietary managed objects for configuring and reporting the IP-layer characteristics of a device's interfaces, extending beyond what the standard IETF IP-MIB covers. It exposes configuration data such as per-interface IP address assignment, prefix length, broadcast address, and address category/status, along with IP helper-address table management for DHCP/BOOTP relay. It is used primarily to monitor and verify interface IP configuration and status -- for example, confirming ciiIPAddressStatus reflects an active, correctly assigned address and that helper addresses are properly configured -- rather than physical hardware health. It complements the standard IETF IP-MIB and IF-MIB, tying entries in ciiIPAddressTable back to a device's ifIndex. It is typically deployed on Cisco routers and Layer 3 switches where administrators need programmatic visibility into IP address assignment across many interfaces, and can download the CISCO-IP-IF-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-IP-IF-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco routers and Layer 3 switches

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll ciiIPAddressTable/ciiIPAddressEntry, indexed by ciiIPAddressIfIndex, to confirm ciiIPAddress, ciiIPAddressPrefixLength, and ciiIPAddressBroadcast match expected values, and check ciiIPAddressStatus for anomalies. The related ciiIPIfAddressTable/ciiIPIfAddressEntry ties address entries back to specific interfaces for cross-referencing with IF-MIB. An unexpected ciiIPAddressCategory or a status other than active on a core interface would indicate a misconfigured or failed IP address assignment.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-interface IP address assignment
  • IP prefix length
  • broadcast address
  • address status/category
  • IP helper address configuration
