Description: Manages Q-in-Q double VLAN tagging tunnel configuration and statistics on Cisco carrier Ethernet switches.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-QINQ-VLAN-MIB?
CISCO-QINQ-VLAN-MIB is a Cisco-specific module for configuring and monitoring 802.1Q-in-Q double VLAN tagging, used on carrier and metro Ethernet switches to let service providers tunnel customer VLANs inside a single provider VLAN tag. It exposes configuration data such as QinQ termination and translation table entries mapping customer (CE) VLAN IDs to provider (PE) VLAN IDs, along with encapsulation settings and row status for each mapping. While primarily a configuration MIB, its row-status objects let operators confirm that a given QinQ tunnel or translation mapping is actively provisioned and operational rather than stale or misconfigured, reflecting the software state of the VLAN forwarding tables. This MIB is built directly on the IEEE 802.1Q VLAN tagging standard, extending it with Cisco's QinQ termination and translation model. It is typically deployed on Cisco carrier-grade switches at service-provider network edges where multiple customer VLANs must be tunneled transparently across a shared metro network. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the CISCO-QINQ-VLAN-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-QINQ-VLAN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco carrier Ethernet / metro Ethernet switches
Monitoring Examples
An operator would inspect cqvTerminationTable/cqvTerminationEntry rows to see the mapping of cqvTerminationPeVlanId to cqvTerminationCeVlanId along with cqvTerminationPeEncap and cqvTerminationRowStatus, confirming a customer's inner VLAN is correctly terminated into the provider's outer VLAN. Polling cqvTranslationTable for cqvTranslationInternalPeVlanId versus cqvTranslationTrunkPeVlanId reveals whether a VLAN ID is being translated correctly across a trunk boundary. If cqvTerminationRowStatus for an expected mapping shows notInService, that signals a broken or unprovisioned QinQ tunnel for that customer.
What Can Be Monitored
- PE VLAN ID
- CE VLAN ID
- QinQ encapsulation type
- termination row status
- VLAN translation mappings
