Category: ATM, Cisco Devices, Routing Protocols, SNMP Framework

Description: Declares agent capabilities for PNNI (Private Network-to-Network Interface) ATM routing protocol management.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-PNNI-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-PNNI-CAPABILITY is a Cisco AGENT-CAPABILITIES module (ciscoAgentCapability 9999) declaring which parts of PNNI-MIB — the ATM Forum's Private Network-to-Network Interface routing protocol MIB — are supported on MGX8850 Release 2.00 and BPX SES Release 1.00 platforms. It includes groups such as pnniGeneralMinGroup, pnniGeneralBorderGroup, pnniNodeMinGroup, pnniNodePglMinGroup/pnniNodePglLgnGroup, pnniLinkMinGroup, pnniNodeTimerMinGroup, pnniNodeSvccLgnGroup, and pnniScopeMinGroup, and narrows a few objects with VARIATION clauses: pnniNodeDomainName is not-implemented, and both pnniNodeRowStatus and pnniSummaryAddressRowStatus only support active/createAndGo/destroy (not notInService, createAndWait, or notReady). As a capabilities statement it exposes no live data itself; its value is telling a manager exactly which PNNI node, link, and summary-address objects a given ATM switch agent will actually respond to. It is deployed alongside PNNI-MIB on Cisco MGX8850/BPX ATM switching platforms running PNNI routing, and the CISCO-PNNI-CAPABILITY MIB is the reference for which of those objects are read/write versus read-only on this platform.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-PNNI-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco MGX8850 (Release 2.00) and BPX SES (Release 1.00) ATM switching platforms

Monitoring Examples

An operator scripting PNNI node creation checks the CISCO-PNNI-CAPABILITY VARIATION for pnniNodeRowStatus before attempting an SNMP SET to activate a row directly; finding that active(1) is not writable explains why the set must instead go through createAndGo(4) followed by a separate transition.

What Can Be Monitored

  • supported PNNI-MIB object groups
  • PNNI node row-status write restrictions
  • PNNI summary-address row-status write restrictions
  • unsupported PNNI node domain-name object
