Description: Declares SNMP agent capabilities for the Cisco bridge extension MIB.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-BRIDGE-EXT-CAPABILITY?
CISCO-BRIDGE-EXT-CAPABILITY is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module from Cisco that declares which objects and variations of the standard CISCO-BRIDGE-EXT-MIB (Cisco's extension of the IETF BRIDGE-MIB) a given agent implementation actually supports. Rather than exposing live monitoring data, it contains only conformance/capability statements describing supported groups, objects, and value ranges for bridge-extension features. It has no direct role in monitoring hardware or software runtime status; its purpose is purely descriptive, informing management applications what a specific Cisco device/software release supports in the underlying bridge-extension MIB. It depends entirely on CISCO-BRIDGE-EXT-MIB and, transitively, on the IETF BRIDGE-MIB (RFC 4188) that it extends. It is used in Cisco switch software releases as an internal conformance declaration referenced by network management tools and MIB compilers rather than something an administrator polls directly. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the CISCO-BRIDGE-EXT-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-BRIDGE-EXT-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco switches (capability declaration only, not device-specific data)
Monitoring Examples
This module contains no sample runtime objects -- it is a conformance declaration, not a data-bearing MIB, so there is no realistic monitoring scenario to describe. A network management tool would instead consult it programmatically to determine feature support before querying CISCO-BRIDGE-EXT-MIB tables.
