Category: Cisco Devices, SNMP Framework, VLAN and Bridging

Description: Declares agent capabilities for OTV (Overlay Transport Virtualization) Layer 2 extension over IP networks.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-OTV-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-OTV-CAPABILITY is a Cisco AGENT-CAPABILITIES module that documents which objects and features of the companion CISCO-OTV-MIB (Overlay Transport Virtualization, a Layer 2 extension technology over IP/Layer 3 networks) are actually implemented by a given Cisco device's SNMP agent. It does not itself expose runtime data; instead it is a conformance/compliance statement describing supported and unsupported groups, objects, and value ranges of the OTV MIB per software release or platform. As such it has no direct role in monitoring hardware or software status -- it is purely metadata used by management tools to determine what OTV monitoring is possible on a given device before polling begins. It is entirely dependent on and meaningless without the CISCO-OTV-MIB it describes. It is used internally by NMS platforms and MIB compilers to validate agent support prior to deploying OTV monitoring configurations on Cisco data-center switches, using the CISCO-OTV-CAPABILITY MIB as the definitive conformance reference.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-OTV-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco Nexus/data-center switch

Monitoring Examples

This module contains only AGENT-CAPABILITIES statements (SUPPORTS/INCLUDES/VARIATION clauses referencing CISCO-OTV-MIB groups), not runtime data objects, so there is no realistic polling or monitoring scenario to describe -- a management application would instead read this module to confirm, for example, whether OTV overlay/tunnel status objects are supported before attempting to poll them from CISCO-OTV-MIB. No sample_objects were provided, consistent with this being a conformance-only module.
