Category: Cisco Devices, SNMP Framework, VLAN and Bridging
Description: Declares SNMP agent capabilities for Provider Bridge (802.1ad) management on Cisco switching platforms.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-P-BRIDGE-CAPABILITY?
CISCO-P-BRIDGE-CAPABILITY is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module describing which objects of the standard IETF P-BRIDGE-MIB (802.1D/802.1ad Provider Bridge extensions) a Cisco device implements. It carries no runtime data itself, only SUPPORTS statements mapping Cisco agent versions to P-BRIDGE-MIB object groups and variations. Because it is a pure conformance module it plays no role in monitoring hardware or software status directly -- that function belongs to P-BRIDGE-MIB, which this module merely qualifies. It is entirely dependent on the standards-based P-BRIDGE-MIB (and by extension the 802.1D/802.1ad bridging standards) for any operational meaning. It is used by management stations compiling MIBs for Cisco Layer 2 switches supporting provider bridging, making the CISCO-P-BRIDGE-CAPABILITY MIB a reference point during that compilation process.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-P-BRIDGE-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco Layer 2 switches supporting Provider Bridging (802.1ad)
Monitoring Examples
This module contains only AGENT-CAPABILITIES SUPPORTS clauses referencing P-BRIDGE-MIB groups; it has no tables or scalars of its own to poll. No monitoring scenario applies — its sole use is to inform an NMS which provider-bridge objects are implemented on a given Cisco switch.
