Description: Agent capabilities declarations for OSPF MIB support on Cisco IOS devices, documenting implemented OSPF object groups and read-only access variations

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-OSPF-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-OSPF-CAPABILITY is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module documenting which parts of the standard OSPF-MIB a Cisco IOS agent implementation supports, including read-only variations on certain objects. OSPF is the IETF link-state interior gateway routing protocol, so this module concerns Cisco's SNMP support for OSPF routing configuration and state. As a capabilities declaration it defines no objects or traps of its own and therefore exposes no runtime data for hardware or software status monitoring. It is entirely dependent on the standards-based OSPF-MIB (RFC 4750/1850) whose support it describes. Such modules are used by management systems and MIB compilers to know, per Cisco device/IOS release, exactly which OSPF-MIB objects and access levels are actually implemented. Engineers can download the CISCO-OSPF-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-OSPF-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco IOS router running OSPF

Monitoring Examples

This is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module, so it defines no pollable objects itself; it only documents which OSPF-MIB groups and object variations (e.g., read-only access) a given Cisco IOS agent supports, and so it does not provide a runtime monitoring scenario on its own.
