Description: Agent capabilities declarations for OSPF trap MIB support on Cisco IOS devices, documenting supported trap-control objects and unsupported notifications

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-OSPF-TRAP-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-OSPF-TRAP-CAPABILITY is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module for Cisco IOS devices, not a data-bearing MIB in its own right. It documents which trap-control objects and notification variations from the OSPF-TRAP-MIB a given Cisco IOS release actually implements, and which ones are unsupported or restricted. As a capabilities statement it exposes no runtime state itself; instead it governs what fault and event data (e.g. OSPF adjacency-change or retransmission traps) a management station can expect to receive from the associated OSPF trap MIB on this platform. It is explicitly dependent on and meaningless without the companion OSPF-TRAP-MIB and the base OSPF-MIB (RFC 1850) that define the actual objects and notifications. It is used during NMS onboarding and MIB-compliance auditing to confirm which OSPF trap features are safe to enable on a given Cisco IOS version. Engineers can download the CISCO-OSPF-TRAP-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-OSPF-TRAP-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco IOS routers and switches running OSPF

Monitoring Examples

This module contains no runtime data objects to poll; it is a conformance declaration (AGENT-CAPABILITIES) rather than a source of monitorable counters or status values. A network engineer would consult it offline, alongside OSPF-TRAP-MIB, to determine whether a specific Cisco IOS train supports the trap-control variables before configuring an NMS to rely on them. No monitoring scenario applies.
