Category: Cisco Devices, Quality of Service, SNMP Framework

Description: Defines SNMP agent capability statements for the Cisco COPS (Common Open Policy Service) client MIB.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-COPS-CLIENT-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-COPS-CLIENT-CAPABILITY is a Cisco AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module that documents which parts of the CISCO-COPS-CLIENT-MIB a particular agent implementation supports, for the Common Open Policy Service (COPS) client feature used in policy-based networking (e.g., QoS or admission control policy enforcement). It does not itself define runtime data objects; instead it maps supported groups/variations of the base MIB for a given device/software release. Because it contains no pollable status objects, it is not directly used to monitor hardware or software runtime state (uptime, CPU, temperature, etc.) -- its purpose is purely conformance declaration for network management tool compatibility. It explicitly depends on and describes conformance to the base CISCO-COPS-CLIENT-MIB. It's typically referenced by network management systems during MIB compatibility/capability negotiation rather than for live monitoring on Cisco COPS-client-capable routers, with the CISCO-COPS-CLIENT-CAPABILITY MIB serving as that negotiation's reference document.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-COPS-CLIENT-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco router/switch running COPS client feature (conformance declaration, not tied to monitoring)

Monitoring Examples

This module is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance statement with no sample_objects and no runtime data objects, so there is no realistic monitoring scenario to describe; it exists to declare which CISCO-COPS-CLIENT-MIB groups and object variations a given Cisco IOS/agent release implements, informing NMS tooling of feature support rather than exposing pollable status.
