What Is CISCO-NAC-NAD-MIB?

CISCO-NAC-NAD-MIB configures a Network Access Device (NAD) participating in the Cisco Network Admission Control (NAC) system, which validates endpoint security posture (via EAPoUDP/802.1x to an AAA server and posture validation server) before granting production network access. It exposes configuration data for the EAPoUDP (EOU) posture-validation protocol, including enablement, retry/rate limits, timeouts, and logging settings. Rather than exposing hardware sensors, it is used for monitoring the software/protocol status of the admission-control process — settings like cnnEouEnabled, cnnEouMaxRetry, and the various cnnEouTimeout* objects reveal whether posture validation is active and tuned correctly, and abnormal retry/timeout counts can indicate endpoints failing NAC checks or AAA/PVS communication problems. It depends on RADIUS-based AAA communication and the Cisco NAC ecosystem (posture validation server/HCAP), so it should be read alongside AAA and RADIUS-related MIBs for full context. It is typically deployed on Cisco switches and routers acting as network admission enforcement points. Engineers can download the CISCO-NAC-NAD-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

An administrator would check cnnEouEnabled and cnnEouAllowClientless on cnnEou* scalars to confirm NAC posture validation is active on the NAD, and monitor cnnEouTimeoutAAA and cnnEouTimeoutRevalidation to see if endpoints are timing out during AAA lookups or periodic re-validation. A high cnnEouMaxRetry combined with frequent cnnEouRateLimit throttling could indicate a flood of non-compliant or misconfigured endpoints hitting the NAD. cnnEouLoggingEnabled controls whether these events are logged for later audit.
