Category: Cisco Devices, Wireless and WLAN

Description: Manages wireless intrusion detection signatures and rogue AP detection on Cisco LWAPP wireless controllers.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-LWAPP-IDS-MIB?

CISCO-LWAPP-IDS-MIB integrates a Cisco Wireless LAN Controller with external IDS/IPS sensor appliances and manages wireless intrusion-detection features such as rogue-AP detection and client exclusion. It exposes a sensor configuration table with each external sensor's address, port, credentials, query interval, enabled state, and a fingerprint hash for verifying the sensor's identity, plus a client-exclusion table for clients blocked due to security violations. This is a security/fault-monitoring MIB: administrators check whether IDS/IPS sensor integration is enabled and reachable, and monitor the exclusion list to see which wireless clients have been quarantined for suspected attacks. It depends on external IDS/IPS appliances integrated over the controller's own query mechanism rather than another IETF MIB. It is deployed on Cisco wireless LAN controllers protecting enterprise Wi-Fi networks from wireless-borne threats.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-LWAPP-IDS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers

Monitoring Examples

Polling cLIdsIpsSensorConfigTable/cLIdsIpsSensorConfigEntry lets an admin confirm cLIdsIpsSensorEnabled is true and check cLIdsIpsSensorAddress/cLIdsIpsSensorPort and cLIdsIpsSensorQueryInterval for each configured IDS/IPS sensor, with cLIdsIpsSensorRowStatus showing whether the entry is active. Growth in cLIdsClientExclTable entries indicates clients being automatically excluded from the wireless network due to detected attacks or policy violations, a direct signal of ongoing security incidents, best tracked after a CISCO-LWAPP-IDS-MIB download is loaded into the network management platform.

What Can Be Monitored

  • IDS/IPS sensor reachability and enabled state
  • sensor query interval
  • sensor configuration row status
  • excluded/quarantined client list
