Description: Declares agent capability for the IETF MPLS L3VPN MIB on Cisco devices.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-IETF-MPLS-VPN-CAPABILITY?
CISCO-IETF-MPLS-VPN-CAPABILITY is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module that documents which parts of the IETF MPLS Layer 3 VPN MIB (MPLS-VPN-MIB) a given Cisco device's SNMP agent implements. It belongs to the Cisco MPLS/VPN management area and does not itself expose runtime data; instead it is a conformance statement used by management tools to determine feature support before polling the actual MPLS-VPN-MIB. As such it plays no direct role in monitoring hardware or software status; its value is in helping a management station know in advance which VPN routing/forwarding objects are safe to query on a particular platform and software release. It is entirely dependent on, and meaningless without, the separate MPLS-VPN-MIB it describes. It is typically consulted during NMS integration and MIB-compliance validation for Cisco MPLS VPN provider edge routers. Engineers can download the CISCO-IETF-MPLS-VPN-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-IETF-MPLS-VPN-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco MPLS provider edge (PE) routers
Monitoring Examples
This is a conformance/AGENT-CAPABILITIES module with no runtime data objects; sample_objects is empty because it defines no monitorable tables or scalars itself. Management tools use it only to check which MPLS-VPN-MIB groups and objects are supported on a given Cisco software release before attempting to poll them.
