Description: Hirschmann MIB for SNMP return-set operations managing bulk configuration response handling on Hirschmann devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HIRSCHMANN-SNMP-RETURN-SET-MIB?

HIRSCHMANN-SNMP-RETURN-SET-MIB is a Hirschmann private extension MIB that implements a return-set mechanism for bulk SNMP SET operations on Hirschmann devices, allowing an agent to report per-parameter result codes after a multi-value configuration change. It exposes a spin-lock for coordinating concurrent set operations, a return table mapping keys to result codes, and a parameter table holding the individual configuration values and a test variable used to exercise the mechanism. Rather than hardware/environmental telemetry, its monitoring value is around configuration operation reliability: checking the return-code table after a bulk SET lets an administrator confirm each parameter in the batch was applied successfully or identify which specific one failed. It is a Hirschmann-proprietary extension layered on top of standard SNMP SET semantics defined by SNMPv2/v3, rather than a replacement for them. It is deployed on Hirschmann industrial Ethernet switches wherever the vendor's management tools perform multi-parameter configuration changes via SNMP that need per-item success/failure confirmation. Engineers can download the HIRSCHMANN-SNMP-RETURN-SET-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HIRSCHMANN-SNMP-RETURN-SET-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Hirschmann industrial switches and routers

Monitoring Examples

After issuing a bulk configuration change, an administrator would poll hmMgmtSEReturnTable for hmMgmtSeReturnCode entries keyed by hmMgmtSeReturnKey to confirm each parameter set via hmMgmtSEParameterTable's hmMgmtSEParameterValue was applied successfully. A non-zero hmMgmtSeReturnCode for a specific key would pinpoint which individual configuration parameter failed to apply, while hmMgmtSESpinLock ensures concurrent set requests don't corrupt the return-set results.

What Can Be Monitored

  • bulk-set return codes per parameter
  • parameter table values
  • set-operation spin-lock state
