Description: Provides management objects for monitoring and configuring the integrated CSU/DSU WAN interface on Cisco routers and access platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-ICSUDSU-MIB?

CISCO-ICSUDSU-MIB is a Cisco enterprise MIB that manages the integrated CSU/DSU (Channel Service Unit/Data Service Unit) WAN interface module built into certain Cisco routers and access platforms for T1 and Switched-56 kbps circuits. It exposes both static configuration data -- such as CSU/DSU type, hardware revision, software revision, and protocol revision -- and diagnostic/test-result data via a self-test report table. This MIB is explicitly geared toward monitoring hardware and software status: it tracks hardware/firmware revisions, the result and timestamp of the last self-test, and the number and time of interface resets, giving administrators direct visibility into the health of the embedded CSU/DSU hardware. It works alongside Cisco's standard interface and DS1 MIBs (ifTable/ifEntry and the DS1-MIB) since the CSU/DSU is presented as a WAN interface. It is deployed on Cisco routers with integrated CSU/DSU WAN interface cards used for leased-line T1 or Switched-56 connectivity in enterprise and carrier-access networks. Engineers can download the CISCO-ICSUDSU-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-ICSUDSU-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco routers/access platforms with integrated CSU/DSU WAN interface cards

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll ciscoICsuDsuStaticConfigTable (ciscoICsuDsuStaticConfigEntry) to check ciscoICsuDsuHwRevision and ciscoICsuDsuSwRevision against expected firmware versions, and review ciscoICsuDsuTestReportTable for ciscoICsuDsuLastSelfTestResult and ciscoICsuDsuTimeOfLastSelfTest to confirm the CSU/DSU passed its most recent diagnostic self-test. A rising ciscoICsuDsuNumResets alongside a recent ciscoICsuDsuTimeOfLastReset would flag an unstable T1 line or failing CSU/DSU hardware requiring replacement.

What Can Be Monitored

  • CSU/DSU hardware and software revision
  • last self-test result and timestamp
  • number of interface resets
  • time of last reset
  • CSU/DSU type/model

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using ciscoICsuDsuNumResets OID:

Select a Cisco routers/access platforms with integrated CSU/DSU WAN interface as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type ciscoICsuDsuNumResets into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports the number of times CSU/DSU has been reset. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
