Category: Cisco Devices, Mobile IP, SNMP Framework

Description: Declares SNMP agent capabilities for Mobile IP home and foreign agent management on Cisco routing platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-MIP-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-MIP-CAPABILITY is a Cisco AGENT-CAPABILITIES module documenting SNMP agent support for the standard MIP-MIB (Mobile IP MIB), used on Cisco routers acting as Mobile IP home or foreign agents. It contains no runtime management objects itself, only statements of which object groups and variations of MIP-MIB a particular agent implementation supports. It therefore has no direct role in hardware or software status monitoring—it exists purely to describe conformance for capability negotiation between managers and agents. It is entirely dependent on the IETF MIP-MIB it describes. It is used by MIB compilers and NMS platforms rather than in day-to-day operational monitoring. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the CISCO-MIP-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-MIP-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco router (Mobile IP home/foreign agent)

Monitoring Examples

This is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module with no runtime data objects (sample_objects is empty), so there is no realistic monitoring scenario to describe; it only records which parts of MIP-MIB a particular Cisco agent implements.
