Description: Manages Cisco AppNav application classification and service node cluster configuration.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-APPNAV-MIB?

CISCO-APPNAV-MIB is a Cisco enterprise MIB (ciscoMgmt.791) that models the AppNav technology used to intelligently redirect application traffic — typically for WAN optimization — from AppNav controllers to a cluster of service nodes. It defines cAppNavServContextTable (service-context join and operational state, using the CAppNavServContextJoinStates and CAppNavServContextOpStates textual conventions), cAppNavACGTable and cAppNavACTable for AppNav controller groups and individual controllers (with CAppNavCMStates cluster-membership states), and cAppNavSNGTable and cAppNavSNTable for service node groups and individual service nodes. Together these tables expose the health and membership state of an AppNav cluster — whether controllers and service nodes have successfully joined the cluster and whether the service context is operating normally — which is critical for confirming that redirected application traffic is actually being served rather than silently dropped or black-holed. It depends on INET-ADDRESS-MIB for controller/service-node addressing and CISCO-SMI for its OID anchor, and is deployed on Cisco WAAS/AppNav controllers and service nodes forming an AppNav cluster in WAN-optimization deployments. Teams running Cisco AppNav clusters frequently keep a CISCO-APPNAV-MIB download on hand for cluster health dashboards.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-APPNAV-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco WAAS/AppNav controllers and service nodes (AppNav cluster deployments)

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls cAppNavACTable and cAppNavSNTable to confirm each AppNav controller and service node shows a joined, healthy cluster-membership state per CAppNavCMStates, then checks cAppNavServContextTable's operational state; a service node showing a zombie or inactive state while the service context reports degraded would indicate that node has stopped effectively participating in traffic redirection.

What Can Be Monitored

  • service context join/operational state
  • AppNav controller group and controller cluster-membership state
  • service node group and service node status
  • AppNav cluster health and traffic redirection state
