What Is CIENA-WS-SYSTEM-MIB?

CIENA-WS-SYSTEM-MIB is a Ciena proprietary MIB, auto-derived from a YANG/NETCONF module, providing system-level representation for Ciena's WaveServer DWDM optical transport platform. Per its overall design it covers general system identity, uptime, and health, while the available sample objects show site and group organizational metadata — site name, description, geographic latitude/longitude, and address, plus system group membership. It supports monitoring the software/system status of a WaveServer node by associating it with a physical site and logical group for topology-aware health reporting, alongside the uptime/identity/health objects the system-level module is intended to expose. It is derived from a YANG data model translated for NETCONF/SNMP use and would work alongside Ciena's other WaveServer MIBs covering interfaces and optics. It is typically deployed on Ciena WaveServer optical transport platforms in service-provider or enterprise DWDM networks. Engineers can download the CIENA-WS-SYSTEM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

An administrator would poll cwsSystemSiteTable (via cwsSystemSiteEntry/cwsSystemSiteId) to retrieve cwsSystemSiteName, cwsSystemSiteLatitude/Longitude, and cwsSystemSiteAddress, correlating alarms from a given WaveServer node with its physical site location. Polling cwsSystemGroupTable would similarly reveal which logical group a system belongs to, useful for aggregating status across related WaveServer nodes in a topology view.
