Description: Manages Two-Way Active Measurement Protocol (TWAMP) for latency testing on Ciena CES switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CIENA-CES-TWAMP-MIB?

CIENA-CES-TWAMP-MIB is a Ciena-specific MIB for configuring and running Two-Way Active Measurement Protocol (TWAMP) tests on CES Carrier Ethernet switches, an active-measurement technique for round-trip latency, jitter and packet loss between two TWAMP-capable endpoints. Its data covers test-session configuration and the resulting performance-measurement results/statistics. Its monitoring value is exposing real-time and historical latency/jitter/loss measurements used to validate SLA compliance and detect network-path degradation, rather than reporting device hardware faults directly. It implements the standard TWAMP protocol (RFC 5357) as a Ciena-specific management MIB, so results depend on TWAMP reflector/sender interoperability. It is deployed in carrier Ethernet service assurance, where TWAMP tests run continuously between edge devices to verify delivered latency/loss against SLA targets. Engineers can download the CIENA-CES-TWAMP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CIENA-CES-TWAMP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ciena CES Carrier Ethernet switch

Monitoring Examples

No sample object names were included for this module, so specific table/OID names can't be cited, but based on its purpose an operator would configure a TWAMP test session (source/destination, test interval) and then poll the resulting round-trip delay, jitter and packet-loss statistics for that session. A sustained rise in measured round-trip delay or packet loss on a given session would indicate congestion or a fault somewhere along that network path.

What Can Be Monitored

  • TWAMP test session configuration
  • round-trip latency/delay
  • jitter
  • packet loss statistics
