Description: Monitors Buffalo Technology NAS storage device volume status, disk health, and RAID array information.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is BUFFALO-NAS-MIB?

BUFFALO-NAS-MIB is a Buffalo Technology vendor-specific MIB that monitors and manages Buffalo TeraStation NAS storage appliances, covering backup jobs, disk and RAID array health, LVM volume state, failover, redundant power, and iSCSI connectivity. Its nasDiskTable exposes nasDiskStatus (normal, standby, degraded, or removed, per disk slot) alongside nasDiskCapacity and nasDiskUsed, while nasArrayTable reports nasArrayStatus across RAID levels 0/1/5/6/10/50/51/60/61 with corresponding capacity/usage percentages; nasBackupTable tracks scheduled backup jobs through nasBackupStatus (ready/run/done/error). Storage virtualization is covered by nasVGTable, nasLVTable, and nasPVTable for volume groups, logical volumes, and physical volumes, high-availability state by nasFailoverParams (nasFailoverRole, nasFailoverStatus, nasFailoverPartner), and hardware redundancy by nasRPSUTable (redundant power supply) and nasISCSITable, with nasErrorOccur and nasInformationOccur notifications firing on new error/information log entries. It depends on BUFFALO-ROOT-MIB for its OID placement under the buffalo enterprise arc and is deployed on Buffalo TeraStation NAS appliances in SMB and departmental storage environments, where administrators performing BUFFALO-NAS-MIB SNMP monitoring watch disk and array health for early failure warning.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BUFFALO-NAS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Buffalo Technology TeraStation NAS appliances

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls nasDiskTable for nasDiskStatus across all disk slots and cross-checks nasArrayTable's nasArrayStatus and nasArrayUsed to confirm the RAID array is healthy and not nearing capacity; a disk reporting degrade(5) or removeRemoved(9) alongside a corresponding array status change would indicate a failed drive that has dropped out of the RAID set and needs replacement.

What Can Be Monitored

  • disk slot status/capacity/usage
  • RAID array status/capacity/usage
  • backup job status table
  • volume group/logical volume tables (LVM)
  • failover role/status/partner
  • redundant power supply and iSCSI connection status
