Description: Manages IEEE 802.3af/at Power over Ethernet (PoE) port power budget and power delivery on Cisco IE1000 industrial switches.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CIE1000-POE-MIB?
CIE1000-POE-MIB is Cisco's private MIB for managing Power over Ethernet (802.3af/at) on the IE1000 series industrial Ethernet switches used in ruggedized/industrial automation environments. It exposes per-interface PoE capability flags, global PoE management mode, per-switch power budget parameters including maximum power and capacitor detection settings, and per-interface power delivery configuration. Its monitoring value centers on power-delivery hardware status, tracking whether PoE is enabled per port, the switch's total power budget and consumption ceiling, and whether connected powered devices are drawing power correctly, which is critical in industrial settings powering cameras, sensors, or wireless access points over Ethernet. It is a Cisco private extension parallel to (but independent of) the IETF POWER-ETHERNET-MIB. It's deployed in industrial automation and factory-floor networks using Cisco IE1000 switches to power field devices over Ethernet. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the CIE1000-POE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CIE1000-POE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco IE1000 industrial Ethernet switch
Monitoring Examples
An administrator polls cie1000PoeCapabilitiesInterfaceTable to confirm which ports support PoE (cie1000PoeCapabilitiesInterfacePoE) and cie1000PoeConfigSwitchParamMaxPower to check the chassis-wide power budget ceiling. cie1000PoeConfigInterfaceParamTable entries are checked per port to verify PoE is administratively enabled and within its configured power allocation. If a port's connected device, such as an industrial camera, is drawing near cie1000PoeConfigSwitchParamMaxPower, the operator sees reduced headroom for additional PoE devices and may need to adjust cie1000PoeConfigSwitchParamCapacitorDetection or redistribute devices across switches.
What Can Be Monitored
- per-port PoE capability
- PoE administrative enable state
- switch-wide power budget/max power
- per-port power allocation
- capacitor detection setting
