Category: Cisco Devices

Description: Manages firmware image upload, version tracking, and software upgrade operations on Cisco IE1000 industrial switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CIE1000-FIRMWARE-MIB?

CIE1000-FIRMWARE-MIB is a Cisco private MIB for managing firmware images and upgrade operations on IE1000 industrial Ethernet switches. It exposes an image status table (version, build date, code revision, upload status) and a per-switch table extending this across members of a switch stack. Its core purpose is software status monitoring: confirming which firmware version is running or staged, and tracking the progress of an in-flight upload/upgrade operation. It is a self-contained Cisco-specific structure with no strong dependency on other standard MIBs beyond the switch's own stacking identity. It is used in industrial network lifecycle/patch management to verify and audit software versions across fleets of IE1000 switches, usually starting with a CIE1000-FIRMWARE-MIB download to load the module definitions into a MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CIE1000-FIRMWARE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco IE1000 industrial Ethernet switch

Monitoring Examples

cie1000FirmwareStatusImageTable exposes cie1000FirmwareStatusImageVersion, ImageBuiltDate and ImageCodeRevision for each stored image (identified by cie1000FirmwareStatusImageNumber/Type/Name), letting an NMS confirm which firmware version is active versus backup. cie1000FirmwareStatusImageUploadStatus can be polled during a firmware push to detect success, failure, or an in-progress transfer, and cie1000FirmwareStatusSwitchTable (keyed by cie1000FirmwareStatusSwitchSwitchId) extends this per stack member, revealing any unit still running an old or mismatched version.

What Can Be Monitored

  • installed firmware image version
  • firmware build date and code revision
  • firmware upload/upgrade status
  • per-stack-member firmware version
