What Is CHIPFDDINET-MIB?
CHIPFDDINET-MIB is a legacy Chipcom (later acquired by 3Com) enterprise MIB for managing FDDI (Fiber Distributed Data Interface) network modules and ports within Chipcom's Online (chassis-based) networking platform. It exposes per-module and per-port FDDI statistics: management receive/transmit errors, backplane errors, PLL (phase-locked loop) unlock errors, and link-confidence-test (LCT) failure counts. Its monitoring value is squarely hardware status of FDDI ring interfaces, surfacing physical-layer faults such as clock-recovery (PLL) problems or backplane communication errors that indicate a failing module or port before the FDDI ring degrades or wraps. Given the FDDI subject matter, it likely parallels concepts from the standard FDDI-MIB (RFC 1512) while adding Chipcom's chassis/slot-indexed module structure.
