Category: Device Management, Vendor: 3Com
Description: Manages configuration and status objects for the 3Com A100 router platform, covering interfaces and routing parameters.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is A100-R1-MIB?
A100-R1-MIB is a vendor-specific SNMP module for the 3Com A100 series router platform (a legacy 3Com/H3C router line), covering node-level interface and traffic-shaping configuration. It exposes objects for physical interface configuration (type, revision, admin/operational status) as well as node-wide operational status and buffer-management parameters. This MIB is explicitly useful for monitoring hardware health: nodeOperStatus reports overall device operational state, nodeFanStatus reports cooling-fan health, and nodeIfConfStatus reports per-interface up/down state, while nodeBestEffortBufferSize/Threshold and nodeGuaranteedBufferSize/nodeUpcWindowSize expose QoS buffer allocation used for traffic-shaping performance monitoring. It builds on standard interface-indexing conventions similar to IF-MIB but adds 3Com-specific node and buffer objects not found in RFC-standard MIBs. It would typically be deployed in enterprise WAN edge or core routing environments running legacy 3Com A100 hardware, polled by NMS platforms for basic health and interface-status dashboards. Engineers can download the A100-R1-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in A100-R1-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Legacy NEC network node/router, referenced in-file only as 'Model 5' (enterprise OID 119)
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll nodeFanStatus and nodeOperStatus to detect a failed cooling fan or a node that has dropped to a degraded operational state before it causes an outage. Walking nodeIfConfTable (indexed by nodeIfConfIndex) surfaces per-interface nodeIfConfPhysType and nodeIfConfStatus, revealing which physical interfaces are administratively down or in error. Tracking nodeBestEffortBufferThreshold against nodeBestEffortBufferSize would show when best-effort traffic buffers are nearing exhaustion, an early indicator of congestion-related packet loss.
What Can Be Monitored
- node operational status
- fan health status
- interface physical type and status
- interface configuration revision
- best-effort buffer utilization
- guaranteed buffer size
