Category: Vendor: 3Com

Description: Manages Chipcom (3Com) plug-in module inventory, operational state, and capability in modular hub chassis.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CHIPMODULE-MIB?

CHIPMODULE-MIB manages plug-in module inventory, operational state, and capability within modular Chipcom (3Com) hub chassis, covering multiple module families (e.g., ol50nn MCTL and ol51nn MMGT module types) installed across chassis slots. It exposes per-slot module tables identifying installed module type and slot index, module-level temperature/health status, and management-module-specific objects such as master election priority/status and station address, plus per-port tables for management-module ports. This MIB is squarely a hardware-status monitoring MIB: it tracks per-slot module temperature status (ol50nnMCTLModTempStatus) as a direct thermal/hardware-health indicator, and tracks which management module in a redundant pair holds master role (ol51nnMMGTModMasterStatus, ol51nnMMGTModMasterPriority) for chassis resiliency monitoring. It shares the common chipcom/chipmib02/chipGen registration branch with CHIPAGENT-MIB and CHIPDOT5-MIB, forming part of the same vendor MIB family and relying on CHIPAGENT-MIB for base agent identity. It was deployed in enterprise wiring-closet or data-center environments running modular Chipcom (3Com) hub chassis with hot-swappable line and management modules, and a CHIPMODULE-MIB download from legacy 3Com MIB archives lets an admin load it into a MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CHIPMODULE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Chipcom (3Com) modular hub chassis

Monitoring Examples

An operator walks ol50nnMCTLModTable by ol50nnMCTLModSlotIndex to check ol50nnMCTLModTempStatus for each installed module, catching a slot running hot before it fails outright. In a chassis with redundant management modules, ol51nnMMGTModTable's ol51nnMMGTModMasterStatus and ol51nnMMGTModMasterPriority reveal which module currently holds mastership and whether a failover has occurred unexpectedly. Checking ol51nnMMGTPortTable alongside a reported master-status flip helps confirm whether port-level connectivity was affected during a management-module failover event.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-slot module temperature status
  • installed module type per slot
  • management module master/priority status
  • management module station address
  • management module port status
