What Is BSC3270-OPT-MIB?
BSC3270-OPT-MIB is a proprietary MIB, apparently from a communications controller product line (object names are prefixed cdx6500), managing the BSC 3270 (Binary Synchronous Communication) protocol option used for IBM mainframe 3270 terminal emulation over synchronous links. It exposes protocol and device group configuration for PCT- and PST-type ports, indicating which physical ports are set up to emulate BSC 3270 devices. It is used mainly to monitor the software/protocol configuration status of legacy terminal-emulation ports — confirming a given synchronous port is correctly configured for BSC 3270 emulation rather than another protocol — making it a configuration-status rather than hardware-health monitor. It works alongside the vendor's underlying serial/synchronous interface and chassis MIBs, which identify the physical ports being configured with this BSC 3270 option. It is deployed on legacy communications controllers or protocol converters bridging IBM mainframe BSC 3270 terminal traffic onto modern network infrastructure. The available objects — cdx6500PCTPortProtocolGroup, cdx6500PCTBSC3270DeviceGroup, and cdx6500PSTPortProtocolGroup — read as configuration/grouping objects rather than fine-grained runtime counters, so a detailed anomaly-detection scenario can't be honestly built from them. In general, an administrator would check whether a given port's cdx6500PCTBSC3270DeviceGroup is populated to confirm that port is actively configured for 3270 terminal emulation rather than a different synchronous protocol.
