Description: Manages CableHome CAP (CableHome Administration Protocol) configuration for residential gateway devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CABH-CAP-MIB?

CABH-CAP-MIB is a CableLabs CableHome standard MIB that manages the CableHome Administration Portal (CAP) function of a residential gateway's Portal Services (PS) element. It exposes configuration for NAT/firewall session timeouts (TCP, UDP, ICMP time-wait values), the CAP's primary operating mode, factory-reset control and history, and UPnP port-forwarding settings, along with a port-mapping table for tracking active WAN-side address translations. Its practical monitoring value is largely in configuration and operational state rather than hardware sensors, it lets an operator confirm the gateway's NAT session-timeout policy, whether UPnP forwarding is enabled, and when the device was last reset to factory defaults. It is part of the broader CableHome MIB family and is expected to be used alongside other CableHome MIBs (e.g. CDP, TRC) that share the PS device model. It is deployed on cable-operator-provisioned residential gateways/cable modems supporting the CableHome specification. Engineers can download the CABH-CAP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CABH-CAP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • CableHome-compliant residential gateway
  • cable modem with embedded router (PS)

Monitoring Examples

An operator would inspect cabhCapMappingTable/cabhCapMappingEntry (keyed by cabhCapMappingIndex) to see current port/address mappings such as cabhCapMappingWanAddrType, revealing which internal devices currently have active WAN-facing sessions. Checking cabhCapUpnpPortForwardingEnable together with cabhCapUpnpTimeWait shows whether UPnP-driven forwarding is active and how long idle mappings persist. Reviewing cabhCapLastSetToFactory after a support call can confirm whether a factory reset actually occurred as reported.

What Can Be Monitored

  • TCP/UDP/ICMP session timeout settings
  • primary operating mode
  • factory-reset history
  • UPnP port-forwarding status
  • active port/address mapping table
