Category: DOCSIS and Cable, Routing Protocols
Description: Manages policy-based routing with RIP (PBRF-RIP) configuration and statistics on BAS CMTS.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is BAS-PBRF-RIP-MIB?
BAS-PBRF-RIP-MIB defines policy-based routing filter (PBRF) configuration for RIP route import and export on Broadband Access Systems CMTS platforms. It exposes tables letting operators filter which RIP routes are imported into or exported from the chassis, keyed by chassis/slot/interface/port location and referencing reusable filter templates. This is primarily a routing-configuration MIB, but its row status objects reflect each filter's operational state and can reveal a misconfigured or inactive policy rule affecting route propagation. It depends on and layers vendor-specific filtering on top of the base RIP protocol (as covered by the standard RIP2-MIB). It is typically deployed in cable/broadband operator networks to control route redistribution across a CMTS cluster's RIP domain. Engineers can download the BAS-PBRF-RIP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BAS-PBRF-RIP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Broadband Access Systems CMTS chassis cluster
Monitoring Examples
An admin would inspect basPbrfRIPImportTable/basPbrfRIPImportEntry, keyed by basPbrfRIPImportChassis/Slot/If/LPort, to confirm a specific import filter's basPbrfRIPImportRowStatus is active and its basPbrfRIPImportTemplateCount matches the intended configuration. The related basPbrfRIPImportFilterTempTable holds the actual filter templates, and a mismatch against the expected basPbrfRIPImportDescr would indicate a missing or incorrect filter causing unwanted RIP routes to be imported or exported.
What Can Be Monitored
- RIP import/export filter configuration
- filter row/operational status
- filter template counts
- per-slot/interface policy assignment
