What Is Brocade-REG-MIB?
Brocade-REG-MIB is Brocade Communications Systems' central OID registration MIB, serving as the root repository of enterprise object identifiers for all Brocade product-specific MIB modules (networking and storage-area-network switching gear). It defines the OID subtree structure that Brocade's product teams reference when creating new product MIBs, rather than defining hardware or software monitoring objects itself. Consequently it exposes no pollable data -- no uptime, temperature, CPU, or fault counters -- since those are found in the individual Brocade product MIBs (e.g., Fibre Channel switch or Ethernet switch MIBs) that register beneath this tree. Its dependency is purely structural, underpinning every other Brocade enterprise MIB by providing a consistent OID namespace. It is deployed as a compile-time prerequisite wherever Brocade switch or director products (Fibre Channel SAN switches, Ethernet switches) are managed via SNMP. A Brocade-REG-MIB reference in a product's MIB import list simply signals that the module registers its objects beneath Brocade's enterprise OID root, not that it exposes runtime data.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Brocade-REG-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Broadcom Brocade G730 Switch - 128-port, 64G Fibre Channel switch, current 8th-gen SAN portfolio
- Broadcom Brocade X8 Director - large-scale director-class Fibre Channel switch, current flagship
Monitoring Examples
The module's stated purpose is to be "Brocade's Central Repository of all OIDs for an enterprise," and sample_objects is empty because it defines no runtime instances of its own. There is no monitoring scenario to describe for this module in isolation -- it only becomes relevant indirectly, as the OID root under which Brocade's actual product MIBs (which do expose status and performance data) are registered.
