Description: Defines a registry of IP Performance Metrics (IPPM) as object identifiers for use in network performance measurement MIBs.

IPNetwork Monitor uses several OIDs from this MIB in network discovery and polling the applicable devices. Start monitoring IANA-IPPM-METRICS-REGISTRY-MIB with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor.

What Is IANA-IPPM-METRICS-REGISTRY-MIB?

IANA-IPPM-METRICS-REGISTRY-MIB is a vendor-neutral, IANA-maintained registry MIB that defines a namespace of object identifiers for IP Performance Metrics (IPPM), intended to be referenced by other MIBs that measure network performance (e.g., delay, loss, jitter). It does not itself expose device configuration, environmental, or fault data; it purely allocates and documents OID branches for performance-metric identification. As explicitly noted in the module's own description, this module was declared Obsolete upon publication of RFC 6248 and is no longer updated, so it has no ongoing role in active hardware/software status monitoring. Its only functional relationship is as a naming dependency for other IPPM-related MIBs that historically referenced its registered metric OIDs. It would only be encountered today in legacy contexts that still reference metrics registered before its obsolescence, rather than in a live device deployment. Engineers can download the IANA-IPPM-METRICS-REGISTRY-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in IANA-IPPM-METRICS-REGISTRY-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer (OID registry only)

Monitoring Examples

This is a pure OID-registry module with no runtime data objects to poll, so no monitoring scenario applies; a management application would only reference its allocated OIDs when interpreting metric identifiers defined by an IPPM-related performance MIB written before its obsolescence.
