Category: IP and Core Protocols, Vendor: Avaya

Description: Manages DHCP server address pools and lease assignments on Bay Networks (Nortel) router platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is BayNetworks-DHCP-MIB?

BayNetworks-DHCP-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from Bay Networks (later acquired by Nortel) used to manage the DHCP server functionality embedded in Bay/Nortel router platforms (the "wf" prefix reflects the legacy Wellfleet naming). It exposes configuration and operational data about DHCP address pools, server interfaces, and lease assignments handed out to clients on each interface. In a monitoring context it is used to check the software-level health and configuration status of the DHCP service running on the router, such as whether an interface's address pool is depleted or lease table entries are behaving as expected, rather than physical hardware sensors. It is a legacy, self-contained proprietary MIB with no strong dependency on other standard MIBs beyond basic SNMPv2 conventions. It would typically be deployed on older Bay Networks/Nortel routers or access concentrators acting as DHCP servers at a branch or campus edge, where BayNetworks-DHCP-MIB SNMP monitoring helps confirm address pools aren't running dry.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BayNetworks-DHCP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Bay Networks/Nortel router
  • Bay Networks/Nortel access concentrator

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll wfDhcpSvrIntfTable to see, per router interface, the configured DHCP address pool and current lease statistics, revealing when a pool is nearing exhaustion (a common cause of new clients failing to obtain addresses). Cross-referencing entries in this table against interface indexes lets an operator pinpoint exactly which LAN segment is running out of available addresses. This is a configuration/service-status check on the DHCP subsystem rather than a hardware health check.

What Can Be Monitored

  • DHCP address pool utilization per interface
  • DHCP lease assignments
  • DHCP server interface configuration
