Category: Network Monitoring (RMON)

Description: Manages Better Networks EthernetBox I/O sensor controller, monitoring digital inputs, relay outputs, and analog sensors.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is BETTER-NETWORKS-ETHERNETBOX-MIB?

This vendor MIB manages the Better Networks EthernetBox, a small IP-connected environmental/I-O sensor appliance used to bring digital inputs, relay outputs, and analog sensors into SNMP monitoring. It exposes device identity/configuration (version, location, network address), a sensor table describing each attached probe, and the device's own uptime. It is squarely a hardware/environmental monitoring MIB: it reports appliance uptime (detecting unexpected reboots) and per-sensor readings such as temperature, letting facilities staff watch physical conditions in a server room or equipment closet. As a small self-contained appliance MIB, it has minimal dependency on other standard MIBs beyond basic SNMP conventions. It is typically deployed in server rooms, network closets, or remote sites where a compact sensor box provides environmental and contact-closure monitoring alongside core network gear. Engineers can download the BETTER-NETWORKS-ETHERNETBOX-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BETTER-NETWORKS-ETHERNETBOX-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Better Networks EthernetBox I/O and sensor controller

Monitoring Examples

An admin polls the sensorTable, indexed by sensorindex, to read each sensor's name and sensortype (e.g. temperature, humidity, dry-contact) alongside numbersensors to confirm all configured probes are reporting; uptime shows whether the EthernetBox unit itself has rebooted unexpectedly. Because tempunit is configurable, values from a temperature-type sensor entry must be interpreted in the configured scale (C or F) — a reading trending toward a configured threshold flags a rising server-room temperature before it becomes critical.

What Can Be Monitored

  • device uptime
  • sensor table (name, type, index)
  • number of sensors
  • temperature unit setting
  • device location/address
  • firmware version
