Description: Manages Apache Kafka client configuration and message publish/consume statistics on Benu Networks platforms.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is BENU-KAFKA-CLIENT-MIB?
BENU-KAFKA-CLIENT-MIB is a Benu Networks proprietary module that instruments the embedded Apache Kafka client used inside Benu's broadband gateway platforms for internal messaging. It exposes latency statistics for message publish/consume operations rather than Kafka broker configuration itself. This is a software performance-monitoring MIB: it tracks processing-time statistics (min/max/average) and packet counts over configurable statistics intervals, including a bucket for packets that exceeded 1 millisecond of processing time, letting operators detect messaging-pipeline slowdowns that could indicate software distress. It depends on the Kafka client library integrated into the Benu software stack rather than on other SNMP MIBs. It is deployed on Benu Networks broadband gateway/access platforms where Kafka is used for internal event or telemetry transport. Engineers can download the BENU-KAFKA-CLIENT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BENU-KAFKA-CLIENT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Benu Networks broadband gateway platform
Monitoring Examples
An operator would poll bKafkaClientLatencyTable/bKafkaClientLatencyEntry, keyed by bKafkaClientLatencyStatsInterval, to read bKafkaClientLatencyAvgProcessingTime, bKafkaClientLatencyMaxProcessingTime, and bKafkaClientLatencyMinProcessingTime over each bKafkaClientLatencyStatsIntervalDuration. A rising bKafkaClientLatencyProcessTimeMorethan1MSPktCount relative to bKafkaClientLatencyTotalPktCount would indicate the Kafka client is falling behind, signaling backpressure in the internal messaging pipeline. This helps correlate application-level slowness with the underlying message bus.
What Can Be Monitored
- average Kafka message processing time
- maximum/minimum processing time
- total packets processed per interval
- packets exceeding 1ms processing time
- statistics interval duration
