Category: Device Management, Vendor: BlueCat Networks

Description: Monitors BlueCat Networks appliance software license status, feature entitlements, and expiration dates.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is BCN-LICENSE-MIB?

BCN-LICENSE-MIB is a proprietary BlueCat Networks MIB for tracking software feature licensing on their IPAM/DDI appliances. It exposes a license table listing each licensed feature's type, description, installation status, expiry date, grace period, validity, and items granted versus items used, along with an alarm severity indicator. This is a software-status MIB focused squarely on license/entitlement health: bcnLicenseValid and bcnLicenseExpiry let an admin catch licenses that have lapsed or are about to, while bcnLicenseItemsUsed against bcnLicenseItemsGranted exposes capacity exhaustion for a licensed feature. It complements other BlueCat MIBs on the same platform (e.g., BCN-DHCPV4-MIB) by correlating licensed capacity with actual feature usage. It is deployed on enterprise IPAM/DDI appliances where license compliance and timely renewal directly affect continued service availability. Engineers can download the BCN-LICENSE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BCN-LICENSE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • BlueCat Networks IPAM/DDI appliance

Monitoring Examples

Polling bcnLicenseTable/bcnLicenseEntry by bcnLicenseTableIndex returns bcnLicenseType, bcnLicenseDescription, bcnLicenseInstalled, and bcnLicenseExpiry for each licensed feature, while bcnLicenseItemsGranted versus bcnLicenseItemsUsed shows entitlement consumption. A bcnLicenseValid flag flipping false, or bcnLicenseExpiry approaching alongside a rising bcnLicenseAlarmSeverity, signals an expiring or exhausted license that could disable a dependent service such as DHCP or DNS on the appliance.

What Can Be Monitored

  • license installed status
  • license expiry date
  • grace period remaining
  • license validity flag
  • items granted vs. used
  • license alarm severity
