What Is BCN-SMI-MIB?
BCN-SMI-MIB is the Structure-of-Management-Information registration module for BlueCat Networks, a vendor of DNS, DHCP, and IP address management (DDI) appliances; often referenced simply as the BCN-SMI-MIB MIB, it establishes the enterprise OID root under which all other BlueCat MIB modules register their objects. As a pure SMI/registration module it defines no scalar or table data itself; instead it provides the namespace structure that BlueCat's product-specific MIBs (covering appliance health, DNS/DHCP service status, and related metrics) build upon. Because it carries no runtime objects, it has no direct role in reporting uptime, CPU/memory, or service-fault status - that monitoring capability is implemented entirely in the BlueCat product MIBs registered beneath this tree. It has a structural dependency relationship with every downstream BlueCat MIB module, none of which can be defined without this root registration existing first. It is deployed wherever BlueCat Networks DNS/DHCP/IPAM appliances are managed, serving solely as the vendor's OID namespace anchor.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BCN-SMI-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- BlueCat Networks DNS/DHCP/IPAM appliances
Monitoring Examples
This module contains only OID registration constructs for the BlueCat Networks enterprise branch, with no sample objects provided since it defines no runtime data. Actual monitoring of a BlueCat appliance's DNS/DHCP service health, hardware status, or performance would be performed through the separate BlueCat product MIBs that register under the OID tree this module establishes.
OIDs
| OID symbolic | OID numeric | Type | Access | Description |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| bcnProducts | 1.3.6.1.4.1.13315.2 | bcnProducts is the root for the OID values defined in BCN-PRODUCTS-MIB. Products might include hardware and/or software. | ||
| bcnMgmt | 1.3.6.1.4.1.13315.3 | bcnSystems is the main subtree for new MIBs. | ||
| bcnServices | 1.3.6.1.4.1.13315.3.1 | bcnServices is the root for the OID values defined in BCN-SERVICES-MIB. The intention is that the set of services define the type of system. | ||
| bcnModules | 1.3.6.1.4.1.13315.4 | bcnModules provides a root object identifier from which MODULE-IDENTITY values may be assigned. | ||
| bcnSMI | 1.3.6.1.4.1.13315.4.1 | The Structure of Management Information for Bluecat Networks enterprise. | ||
| bcnExperimental | 1.3.6.1.4.1.13315.5 | The bcnExperimental branch is intended for work in progress mibs. Objects in this part of the tree will be deleted when the work is complete and moved to its permanent location. |
