An administrator would poll serialInterfaceTable/serialInterfaceEntry for a given serialPortNum to check serialPortType, serialPortEnable, and serialPortbps, confirming the serial port on a given processor or service module card is enabled and running at the expected baud rate. serialPortNumOfValidEntries indicates how many serial ports are recognized on the shelf, and a lower-than-expected count could reveal a card that failed to register its serial ports after insertion or reboot.
