Last Updated: 1999-01-18

Category: DOCSIS and Cable

Description: Provides diagnostic and override objects used for internal testing on BAS CMTS platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is BAS-HACKED-MIB?

BAS-HACKED-MIB is a vendor-internal SNMP module used on Broadband Access System (BAS) CMTS chassis platforms, providing low-level diagnostic and override objects for chassis cards. It exposes per-card identification data (chassis, slot, interface, logical port), a class field, and control objects for saving agent configuration and resetting a card. Its monitoring value lies in hardware status and control: basHackedCardInfoTable lets an operator confirm which physical slot/interface a card occupies, basHackedAgentConfigSaveStatus reports whether a configuration save succeeded, and basHackedCardReset provides a way to force-reset a misbehaving card. Because this is described as an internal testing MIB, it likely supplements the vendor's standard chassis and cable-modem MIBs rather than replacing them. It is typically used internally by engineering or support staff troubleshooting CMTS chassis hardware rather than in routine customer-facing monitoring. Engineers can download the BAS-HACKED-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BAS-HACKED-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Broadband Access System (BAS) CMTS chassis
  • cable/broadband access platform

Monitoring Examples

An engineer investigating a card fault would read basHackedCardInfoChassis, basHackedCardInfoSlot, and basHackedCardInfoIf from basHackedInfoTable/basHackedInfoEntry to identify the exact chassis/slot/interface of a suspect card, then check basHackedAgentConfigSaveStatus to see if the last configuration save failed. If the card is unresponsive, basHackedCardReset can be invoked (via basHackedCardInfoLPort to target the logical port) to force a reset, with basHackedBcmIpAddress used to confirm the management IP of the underlying Broadcom-based subsystem. This is diagnostic/override tooling rather than a source of routine performance counters.

What Can Be Monitored

  • card chassis/slot/interface identity
  • card class/type
  • agent configuration save status
  • card reset control state
  • Broadcom subsystem management IP
