What Is Apple-macintosh-system-mib?

The Apple-macintosh-system-mib is a legacy Apple-authored SNMP module for managing classic Macintosh systems on AppleTalk-based networks, part of Apple's early enterprise network management extensions. It exposes system identity (snmpName, machineIcon), a "contents" inventory table enumerating registered management agents and object groups on the machine, and trap configuration objects controlling where fault notifications are sent. Its monitoring emphasis is software/agent inventory and fault-notification health: the contentsTable reveals which management agents/software components are present and running on a given Mac, while the trap objects confirm the machine is correctly wired to alert a management station when a problem occurs. It builds on the AppleTalk protocol and basic SNMP framework conventions rather than standard IETF host MIBs. It was typically deployed on classic Mac OS workstations and servers in 1990s-era enterprise networks managed centrally over AppleTalk/SNMP.
