Category: ATM, Alarm and Event Management

Description: Defines SNMP trap notifications for ATM interface and virtual circuit alarm conditions.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ATM-TRAP-MIB?

ATM-TRAP-MIB defines SNMP trap notifications for ATM interface and virtual circuit alarm conditions rather than a set of polled runtime objects. As a notification-only module, its data consists entirely of event definitions signaling when an ATM interface or VC transitions into an alarm state. Its monitoring value is event-driven fault detection: it is the software mechanism by which hardware/link fault conditions on ATM interfaces and VCs are reported to a network management station in real time, rather than through periodic polling of counters. It complements the base ATM-MIB and ATM2-MIB, which carry the polled configuration and statistics that these traps report against. It is used on ATM switches and interfaces that need to push alarm events to an NMS as they occur, and administrators configuring such alerting typically begin with an ATM-TRAP-MIB download to load its notification definitions into their trap receiver.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ATM-TRAP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, applies to ATM-capable switches and interfaces

Monitoring Examples

No object or table names were supplied for this module beyond its role as a trap-definition module. This MIB defines only notification objects for ATM interface and virtual circuit alarm conditions rather than pollable runtime counters, so a monitoring system would subscribe to receive these traps in real time rather than periodically polling for values. Receiving such a trap alerts an administrator that a specific ATM interface or VC has entered an alarm state, prompting investigation into that link.

What Can Be Monitored

  • ATM interface alarm trap events
  • ATM virtual circuit alarm trap events
  • interface/VC fault notification state
